Wilton High School Theatre continues its programming with a special Senior Show performance this year. The cast of WHS 2021 seniors have created a movie musical entirely through Zoom with an original script and score by WHS seniors Michael Biondo and Rachel Slater.
No Rain No Flowers is a musical comedy told from the perspective of 10 teens trying their best to survive not only high school but also a worldwide pandemic. As they navigate a world of social distancing, toilet paper shortages, and online school, they learn that not everything in life will turn out the way they want it to. The world around them has changed so much since January but they must focus on all the things that have stayed exactly the same. After all, with no rain, there will be no flowers.
Biondo and Slater approached WHS Artistic Director, Kathryn Luckstone in the summer of 2020 with the news that they had spent their time in quarantine writing a one-act original musical. They worked with Luckstone on developing the script and recorded their original songs using ukuleles.
“It was a clear opportunity to use their piece as their Senior Show. This has been an extraordinary collective experience they all shared (and continue to share),” Luckstone explained. “I’m so proud of Rachel and Michael for using their time to make a piece of art that will provide some levity and catharsis to the cast and audience. And they will always have this film as a memento for this slice of time in their lives.”
Don’t miss the chance to see the streaming of No Rain, No Flowers this weekend on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The film also includes the special role of “Señora” played by WHS Spanish teacher, Lauren Kantor.
