Wilton resident Austin Andersen, a seventh grader at New Canaan Country School, was one of two Fairfield County Football League players named to the FBU Connecticut seventh grade all-state football team.
The team began competition in the FBU National Championship tournament on Saturday, Dec. 6. Andersen, who was a member of Wilton Blue’s seventh grade football team that shared this year’s FCFL championship, caught two touchdown passes in the first weekend of play, including the game winner in Team Connecticut’s first round, 20-14 victory over Long Island.
By defeating North Jersey 32-12 on Sunday, Dec. 7, a game in which he also hauled in a TD pass, Andersen and his teammates advanced to the Sweet 16 and the East Regional Finals in Alexandria, VA.
That was the site of where they took on Massachusetts this past weekend, defeating the state to CT’s north 32-31, to become Eastern Region champs on Saturday, Dec. 13. Sadly, Andersen’s team fell to Maryland on Sunday in the FBU semi-finals, losing in a shut-out 26-0.k
