Despite the floodwaters that filled its parking lot and the surrounding Cannondale Village area, the Cannon Grange will proceed with holding its 92nd Agricultural Fair and Exposition on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The fair will be held rain or shine.
Built in 1899, Cannon Grange Hall was well-built on a higher patch of ground on its current location at 25 Cannon Rd. According to Grange member Barbara Geddis Wooten, the historic flood on Sunday, Aug. 18, left the inside of the main hall largely untouched.
Members are inviting the community to visit the grange this Sunday to experience the “revitalized charm” of a classic agricultural fair, “where tradition meets modern vibrancy,” according to a press release.
A Wilton tradition, the event will feature a variety of artisans and vendors offering their unique products, accompanied by live music headlined by the indie performance artist D’Pew. Throughout the day, other engaging speakers and demonstrations will be featured across the fairground.
Inside the historic Cannon Grange Hall will be the exposition and competition, featuring entries in a variety of categories from horticulture, handcrafts, photography, and baking. Poultry, waterfowl, and rabbits will also be exhibited and the competition for a coveted Blue Ribbon adds an extra layer of excitement.
Any member of the public can exhibit and enter the competition; grange membership and/or Wilton residency are not required. The fair book lists all categories and classes as well as information on entering and completing an entry form. An entry fee of $2.00 for each exhibit entered is required and must be submitted with the entry application. Entries and fees will be accepted at the Fair Grounds on Saturday, Aug. 24 between 2-4 p.m. Entry applications and fees will be accepted on Sunday morning, Aug. 25, from 7:45-8:30 a.m., with a $3.00 fee per entry.
Parking is located at the Cannondale Train Station. Concessions will be available, and admission is $2.00 per person (with additional donations welcome).
