Wilton CERT offers free, annual Disaster Preparedness Training. Citizens are invited to become trained to help family, friends and neighbors in the event of an emergency or disaster. CERT instructors, certified by the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security along with other instructors from Police, Fire and EMS, assist in the training. The initial training is conducted over 20 hours and includes:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • CERT Organization
  • Fire Safety
  • Search and Rescue
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Terrorism

Upon completion interested participants may become members of Wilton CERT. Participants must be able to attend at least six of the eight sessions, in order to qualify for application to Wilton CERT.

The next Disaster Preparedness Training will be held virtually via Zoom during February 2021. The schedule will be as follows:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 2, 7-9 p.m.: Unit 1–Welcome/Disaster Preparedness
  • Thursday, Feb. 4, 7-9 p.m.: Units 1 and 2–Disaster Preparedness/CERT Organization
  • Tuesday, Feb. 9, 7-9 p.m.: Unit 3–Disaster Medical Operations 1, presented by the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps
  • Thursday, Feb. 11, 7-9 p.m.: Units 3 and 4–Medical Operations 1/Medical Operations 2,  presented by the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps
  • Thursday, Feb. 16, 7-9 p.m.: Unit 6–Fire Safety, presented by the Wilton Fire Department
  • Tuesday, Feb. 18, 7-9 p.m.: Units 6 and 7–Fire Safety/Light Search and Rescue, presented by the Wilton Fire Department
  • Tuesday, Feb. 23, 7-9 p.m.: Units 8 and 5–Terrorism/Disaster Psychology, presented by the Wilton Police Department and Bonnie Rumilly, LCSW

Thank you for reading this GOOD Morning Wilton article. I hope you find all our reporting helpful and an important part of keeping up on everything in Wilton. Since 2013, GMW has worked hard to bring you timely, independent news that's available to everyone at no cost. No other news source covers Wilton, and only Wilton, full-time. What makes this local public service possible is reader support. Paid memberships fund reporters who bring you next-day news and secure our resources for things like livestreams and getting news to you when it counts. But we can't do this without your support. For as little as $5 a month, a GOOD Morning Wilton membership can keep local, independent news going in Wilton. Please consider supporting us today. Thank you,

Heather Borden Herve, GMW Editor/Publisher
