A true Wilton tradition founded in 1976, Wilton Children’s Theater is proud to begin its 42nd season! It is now offering registration for its two school-year shows, Annie, with performances November 16, 17 and 18, 2018 and Disney’s The Little Mermaid, with performances March 15, 16, and 17, 2019.
Registration is ongoing online, now through Aug. 31. In addition, in-person registration will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 5 and 6, from 5-7 p.m. in the Middlebrook School cafeteria.
School-year shows are open to Wilton children who will be in 4th-8th grade during the 2018-19 school year. Students must choose one show, and all registration happens now; there is no later registration for the March show.
Rehearsals for both shows are from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Middlebrook Auditorium. For Annie, rehearsals are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from September through the last show; and for Disney’s The Little Mermaid, rehearsals are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from January through the last show.
WCT hires professional directors, music directors, and choreographers for its shows, most who have worked with the organization for many years. More dates and details can be found on the Wilton Children’s Theater website.
Last year, the organization put on Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka in November, and Oliver! in March. The shows were very popular with audiences and actors alike. According to WCT Board vice president Andrea Bates, it’s a wonderful experience for all the kids who participate.
“I love to see the camaraderie and teamwork between all the students in the show. The older ones help the younger ones, and it’s a great way for kids to get to know each other, and then know children in all of the schools. Plus, everyone learns that regardless of the size of your part, it’s fun to go to rehearsal each day, be with your friends, and be onstage and part of the big numbers,” she says.
