To the Editor:

As an accountant and long time Wilton resident, I was thrilled to discover how impactful the Connecticut Neighborhood Assistance Act is for our local nonprofits. This program allows corporations to direct their state tax dollars to community organizations. That companies can make generous donations without impacting their bottom line is a game changer for our community.

When I joined the board of the Wilton Historical Society last year, I saw the benefits firsthand. Thanks to Neighborhood Assistance Act contributions from Wilton Re, Servco Oil and Propane, Eversource and ConnectiCare, we’ve been able to install new climate-control systems to protect our museum collection and repaired sections of the iconic Lambert House’s cedar shingle roof.

What surprises me most is how few businesses know this program exists. The process is simple, the paperwork is minimal, and the impact on Wilton is significant. I encourage every company in town that pays Connecticut state taxes to take part.

To learn how to take part, please contact me, I’m happy to help.

Thank you for reading this GOOD Morning Wilton article. I hope you find all our reporting helpful and an important part of keeping up on everything in Wilton. Since 2013, GMW has worked hard to bring you timely, independent news that's available to everyone at no cost. No other news source covers Wilton, and only Wilton, full-time. What makes this local public service possible is reader support. Paid memberships fund reporters who bring you next-day news and secure our resources for things like livestreams and getting news to you when it counts. But we can't do this without your support. For as little as $5 a month, a GOOD Morning Wilton membership can keep local, independent news going in Wilton. Please consider supporting us today. Thank you,

Heather Borden Herve, GMW Editor/Publisher
