In the early morning hours (4:35 a.m.) of Sunday, Dec. 8, the Wilton Fire Department was dispatched to a Wilton Crest condominium after a 9-1-1 call reported an odor of smoke and a trapped resident.
Fire Department Chief James Blanchfield issued a press release about the fire and the department’s response.
Upon arrival at the Wilton Crest condominium complex, Wilton firefighters encountered fire, smoke and heat from the first floor of a two-floor unit.
The occupant was able to escape the fire by jumping out of a second-floor window on the rear side of the unit. Wilton Police Department officers who arrived at the scene were able to assist with the resident, who was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Wilton EMS for injuries sustained at the scene.
Firefighters entered the condo and search to confirm no other occupants remained inside the property. They were able to confine and extinguish the fire, without any fire spreading to any adjacent residences.
In addition to the Wilton Police Department and Wilton EMS, automatic aid was provided by the Westport Fire Department, New Canaan Fire Department, and Weston Fire Department, with the Norwalk Fire Department providing Station coverage for the duration of the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Wilton Fire Marshal’s Office.
