Thanks to Wilton Garden Club and its many volunteers, more than 13,000 cheerful daffodils are blooming around town to welcome spring. The club has published a self-guided driving tour for residents to be able to witness the flowers’ perennial beauty before they vanish.
According to Garden Club members, the daffodil mix of 15 time-tested varieties that have been planted provides a succession of flowers for a 4-6 week bloom time this spring — and for many springs to come.
This daffodil beautification program, known as the Golden Miles Initiative, began in 2021 to celebrate Wilton Garden Club’s centennial, with the ultimate goal of planting 15,000 daffodils in Wilton over five years. Last fall, the club planted 2,500 bulbs along River Rd., on the hillside of the Glen River Condominium complex.
“All our hard work, planning and planting is really paying off as we see the bulbs naturalizing or multiplying as we expected, which will ensure continued and even more spectacular beauty for years to come,” said Nancy Greeley, the Garden Club member who co-chairs the Golden Miles Initiative with Suzanne Knutson. “Many thanks to everyone who has helped make this a reality!”
