Congratulations to Emma Braten, who raised so much for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) that she won the title of the society’s Student of the Year.
We profiled Emma in February, and detailed the Wilton High School junior’s effort to compete with three other high school students to raise the most money for the blood cancer charity. In total she raised more than $18,000 to help end blood cancers.
Emma got involved in the effort to honor the work that the LLS did on behalf of her mother, Maxine, who five years ago faced a much more difficult challenge herself—fighting leukemia. Now healthy, Maxine was Emma’s inspiration to raise money and help others.
Emma solicited donations from people online through emails and social media, and held bake sales to raise the $18,000.
