Good afternoon proud parents, esteemed faculty, honored guests, and, most importantly, the remarkable Wilton High School graduating Class of 2024. You have reached a momentous milestone so it is a great honor and privilege for me to stand before you today. As we gather here, adorned in our caps and gowns, let us take a moment to contemplate not only the culmination of years of hard work and dedication but also the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.

Today marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another — a chapter filled with fresh opportunities, new adventures, and a next chance to make a meaningful impact on the world around us. As you embark on the next leg of your journey through this life, I think it’s crucial you pause and recognize those who have inspired and supported you along the way. Whether it be a teacher who ignited your passion for learning, a friend who stood by your side through thick and thin, or a family member who instilled in you the values of perseverance and resilience, collectively, their influence has shaped you into the individuals you are today. (As my son is fond of saying, “Facts no cap.”)

Holding those individuals in your hearts, consider: how might you pay forward their generosity? Here’s one thought: Go make this world a better place. In this country, one we are blessed to live in, we are afforded the opportunity to pursue our passions relentlessly. Ours is a nation built on the principles of freedom, equality, and opportunity. Those principles empower us to dream big and strive together for a better tomorrow. So why not direct your passions to the betterment of those around you?

As you prepare to venture into the world beyond Wilton and contemplate your own contributions, I offer you three pieces of advice to consider:

First, dare to dream boldly. In the words of Brene Brown, “Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome.” Embrace the uncertainty that lies ahead, and never be afraid to chase after your wildest aspirations. For it is in daring to dream that you will discover your true potential and unleash your inner power to create change.

Second, lead with empathy and compassion. Former president Ronald Reagan once sagely noted, “We may not be able to help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” As you navigate the complexities of the world, remember the importance of kindness, understanding, and sensitivity. By lifting others up and standing in solidarity with those in need, you can build a more inclusive and democratic society for all.

And finally, never underestimate the power of your voice. Each and every one of you has the ability to spark change, to challenge the status quo, and to make your mark on the world. So speak up, speak out, and let your voices be heard.

As you bid farewell to Wilton High School and set forth on your individual paths, carry with you the people by whom you were shaped, the lessons learned, the memories cherished, and the dreams that ignite your imaginations. Congratulations, Class of 2024, now I pronounce by the authority vested in me by the state of Connecticut and by the Wilton Board of Education, as the Superintendent of Schools, on this 15th day of June in the year 2024, that the members of the Wilton High School Class of 2024 here before me have successfully completed the requirements for graduation and are eligible to be graduated from Wilton High School. I hereby declare you graduated! Madame Chairman, I present to you and to the Board of Education the Class of 2024.
