Elena Andromache Savas, age 19, of Wilton, passed away at her home on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020.
Born in New York, NY York on Oct. 19, 2000, she was a daughter to Jonathan A. and Anastasia Wolff Savas and twin sister of Christina Savas. She graduated from The Hopkins School in June 2019 and was a freshman at Claremont McKenna College in California.
Elena had remarkable drive and passion for everything she did. She was an accomplished gymnast who won numerous State, Regional and National Championship titles for individual gymnastics as part of the Darien YMCA Gymnastics Team. As a teen, she shifted her talents to diving, winning many competitions and breaking high school records as part of Whirlwind Diving and The Hopkins School Swim and Dive Teams. She was recruited by Claremont McKenna to dive on the Claremont Mudd Scripps Swimming and Diving Team. She shared her passion for diving with young children, coaching diving for the past four years.
She was equally driven with her schoolwork and recognized as an Academic All-American Athlete in 2019.
Friends and family are blessed to have experienced Elena’s keen sense of humor; she particularly liked playing fun-spirited, practical jokes on others, especially her sister. She brought sunshine, mischief and joy to her family, dancing in the kitchen, performing impersonations, and recounting funny stories of her teammates and classmates. Her smile, humor and insights were a gift to all she touched. She will always be the sunshine in their lives.
Elena is survived by her parents, Jon and Stacey, her twin sister and best friend Christina, her grandparents Helen and Steve Savas, many cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Elena at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church (36 New Canaan Rd., Wilton). All who grieve for Elena and wish to offer their support to the Savas family are welcome to attend. Burial will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, online donations may be made in Elena’s memory to The Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative. Online condolences may also be offered to her family online.
