With the oppressive heat and humidity continuing Tuesday, Wilton officials have opened Room 30 at Comstock Community Center (180 School Rd.) as a designated cooling location.

That move comes as the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an air quality alert on Tuesday for Fairfield County. Those particularly at risk include the elderly, people with respiratory or heart disease, and children. Recommended guidelines during an Air Quality Action Day include limiting prolonged outdoor exertion by active children and adults, and people with asthma and other respiratory conditions.

Wilton Library is also available as a cooling location, and for options outside of Wilton, the United Way has activated the 2-1-1 system to help in locating nearby cooling centers.
