A. R. Gurney’s humorous and heartwarming play, Later Life opens the 76th season at the Wilton Playshop.

The play centers around Austin (Phil Lorenzo of Milford), who has spent his entire life convinced that something terrible is bound to happen.

One night at a party overlooking Boston Harbor,  he has the pleasure of rekindling a romance begun almost 30 years ago with Ruth (Nancy Sinacori of Stamford, CT) now a multiple divorcée, whose personal life is in such turmoil that their mutual friends look to Austin as Ruth’s last shot at normalcy.

At the same time, these friends are hoping the wildly unpredictable Ruth will help loosen Austin from the grip of years of depression and lifelessness.

The other guests,  playful hostess Sally, the maternal Marion, the abrasive Nancy, the outgoing Esther, and the dramatic Judith (all portrayed by Ann Alford of Norwalk); and the philosophical Jim, the curmudgeonly Roy, the nerdy Duane, the jokester Ted and the playful Walt (all portrayed by Fred Rueck of Patterson, NY) rally behind them and remind them of their them of the infinite possibilities that life holds, should one only choose to pursue them.

A.R. Gurney, a CT resident, was recently honored at the Westport Country Playhouse for his extensive body of work, and a revival of his play, Love Letters, is currently on Broadway. The Wilton Playshop is delighted to add to the celebration of his work with this production of Later Life.
