Key Highlight: Three homes changed hands this week, including one historic property, a Colonial Revival on Chestnut Hill Rd.

Charles Hanford built 120 Chestnut Hill Rd. in 1831 on the land originating from his father, Nathan’s estate and Hanford’s heirs later sold the house and property to N.B. Gorham, who also owned a farm on Chestnut Hill Rd. A coveted piece of property, this historic home continued to change hands a number of times and was even subdivided to appeal and accommodate the needs of some wealthy New Yorkers. In 1947, it was sold to a pioneering CBS news correspondent, Richard C Hottelet and his wife. The conversion of simple farmhouses into spacious country homes was commonplace between the world wars and throughout the 1950s. Additionally there seemed to be a great deal of importance placed on the perceived depiction of what a Colonial should be with less regard for its authenticity or architectural integrity.
