The Town of Wilton’s tax collector Phil Damato has posted a reminder for taxpayers that the second tax installment is due on Jan. 1, 2020. Any individuals with property on the assessed property list as of Oct. 1, 2018 can make a payment without interest on or before Feb. 3, 2020.

The first tax installment on taxable property was due on or before Aug. 1, 2019.

Taxpayers should note that the town does not mail a new tax bill for the Jan. 1, 2020 installment; in fact, the original tax bill mailed in July 2019 contains both installments. Town officials remind taxpayers that failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve a taxpayer of the obligation to pay taxes or delinquent charges.

Payments not made on time become delinquent and subject to interest at a rate of 18% per year, (1.50% per month or a part of a month beginning Jan. 1, 2020), as provided under Public Act 82-141. The minimum interest charge is $2.00.

The Motor Vehicle Supplemental tax bill due January 1, 2020 may be paid without interest on or before Feb. 3, 2020. A Motor Vehicle Supplemental tax bills is only for anyone who registered an automobile or other motor vehicle between Oct. 2, 2018 and July 31, 2019.

Taxes can be paid in person at the Tax Collector’s Office in Wilton Town Hall (238 Danbury Rd.), with office hours 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Taxes can be mailed to the tax collector’s office; the last day payment can be postmarked and not considered delinquent is Feb. 3, 2020–if mailed that day, officials suggest taking the envelope into the Post Office for postmarking.

Taxpayers can also pay online via the town website. There is no charge for an online ACH payment.
