The Wilton branch of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA hosted the Tom Jagelka Snowflake Invitational. This was the first big competition of the season with approximately 350 gymnasts competing. Snowflake is named in honor of the former director of the gymnastics program, Tom Jagelka, who transformed the program from a small gymnasium to the Wilton Family YMCA Gymnastics Training Center with over 50 gymnasts representing the team today ranging in levels 2-8 and XCEL programs.

Teams from the Westport-Weston Family YMCA, Rye YMCA, Darien YMCA, Ocean Community YMCA, Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA, Meriden/New Britain/Berlin YMCA, and Glastonbury YMCA joined the Wilton YMCA gymnasts for two days of competition over Dec. 7-8.

Overall, Wilton YMCA gymnasts won three individual championship titles and 23 event titles: Levels 6, 7, and XCEL Gold placed second, while Levels 2, 3, and 4 placed third.

“Having only been the head gymnastics coach at Wilton YMCA for a little over a year I am extremely pleased with the performances of all of the Wilton YMCA gymnasts at our successfully-run Invitational,” Head Coach Erin Hunter said. “I could not have gotten the gymnasts to where they are today without the help of our Gymnastics Director Victoria Shea, the entire coaching staff and the foundation Tom Jagelka created for the Wilton YMCA Gymnastics program for so many years.”
