The Wilton branch of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA hosted the Connecticut Southern League Championships gymnastics meet on March 2-3 — the first of four championship meets this season. Teams from both the Westport Weston Family YMCA and Rye YMCA joined the Wilton YMCA gymnastics team for two days of competition.
A western theme fit perfectly for the day, from backdrops of cactus and tumbleweed to the many attendees showing off their flannels, hats and boots.
Overall, Wilton won 14 Individual Championship titles and 64 Event titles, including Levels 6 and 7 capturing Team Championship titles, Levels 2 and 4 placing second, and Level 3 placing third.
“The Wilton gymnasts’ showing was fantastic with respectable finishes by all levels and age groups. This is a testament to their dedication to the team, the sport, and their physical as well as mental well-being,” Head Coach Erin Hunter said.
