I hope you enjoyed the snowy and chilly weekend because big weather changes for Wilton are likely in our week ahead (January 9-15). The snow is likely to melt as much-above average temperatures filter into town during the new week.

Monday, Jan. 9:  On Monday, the mild air won’t be with us yet. Instead, it will still be brutally cold with high temperatures only around 20 degrees, but wind chills or feels like temperatures will only top off in the low 10s. In the morning, however, it will be much colder, and it will feel more like between -10 and 0 degrees. The only positive about the day, unless you love the incredible cold, is that the sun will be out much of the time, although there will be some cloudy periods midday.

Tuesday, Jan. 10:  We’ll begin to feel the warmer temperatures starting Tuesday. Highs will rise above the freezing mark by a few degrees. At the same time, precipitation will move through during the afternoon and evening, so if the temperatures remains cold enough, we may experience some light snow showers. Otherwise, a few rain showers can be expected. Either way, there will not be a big snowstorm.

Wednesday, Jan. 11:  Rain will move through Tuesday night, clearing by the time you wake up Wednesday morning. The clouds from that rain will quickly move out, making for a pretty nice day with mainly sunny skies and temperatures up to 50 degrees, which is more than 10 degrees above average. The only catch is that winds will be gusty behind the cold front, but again, it will be mild so it won’t feel that bad.

Thursday, Jan. 12:  Getting into Thursday, it will remain on the dry and mild side, featuring filtered sunshine as rain stays way off to our north and west. If you want a break from the cold, I urge you to get outside because it is going to be so mild and warm out. How about temperatures reaching the mid 50s and possibly 60 degrees!? I’ll take that!

Friday, Jan. 13:  Clouds will clear to sunshine following another overnight cold front on Friday as the next area of arctic cold gets ready to make its move into the Northeast. It looks like the cold won’t be felt until the weekend, however, so Friday will be the final day to enjoy the 50 degree temperatures, especially in the morning.

Saturday, Jan. 14: Now the cold is likely to make a comeback this weekend, and I’ll also be watching the next significant storm system around this time. Just mostly cloudy skies and freezing temperatures is forecast for the day on Saturday.

Sunday, Jan. 15:  On Sunday, though, there is the chance we’ll have a snowstorm. Because this storm is a week away, there is still plenty of time to watch, but the weather ingredients for snow are there, if a storm indeed ends up impacting Wilton. As of now, up to half a foot of fresh powder may fall!
