ORIGINAL STORY: Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, at 12 p.m. — The National Weather Service has announced a Winter Weather Advisory for “portions” of southern Fairfield County, in effect from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The advisory calls for mixed precipitation with expected total snow accumulations up
to two inches along with a “light glaze of ice.” The eastward-moving weather system will impact areas in addition to southern Connecticut, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and southeast New York, specifically coastal areas, New York City and Long Island.

Precipitation will begin as snow, then change to a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain during Thursday morning. Temperatures will eventually rise above freezing from south to north late Thursday morning into early Thursday afternoon with any lingering precipitation turning to rain.

Road conditions will likely be slippery and the hazardous weather will impact the Thursday morning commute.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down and use caution while traveling, and to check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions. For anyone going outside, the NWS advisory suggests watching the first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks and driveways as these surfaces could be icy and
slippery, increasing the risk of falls and injury.
