Have a child who’s a born performer, one who runs to the spotlight and loves to belt out a showstopper? Wiremill Academy has two upcoming summer programs that might be perfect to consider. First up is a one-week Musical Theatre Cabaret performance camp, July 21-25, to be followed by a 2-week summer camp workshop performance of GODSPELL, JR. slated for July 28 – Aug. 8 and culminating in a performance at the Wilton Playshop.

Cabaret Theatre Camp, (grades 7-12), July 21-25, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., $395.00

The week will be spent working on material specifically chosen with each individual campers in mind. It will wrap up with a caberet evening of solos, duets and group numbers for an audience of friends and family. .

Musical Theatre Camp — Godspell Jr. (ages 10-16), July 28-Aug. 8, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., $750

This is a high energy, fun-filled musical workshop where performers will discover the exciting world of musical theatre by rehearsing and putting on a workshop production of a show. This camp will teach young actors how to go about preparing for a role, working on scenes and music and ultimately how to prepare for a performance. Children will experience freedom of expression, while learning respect for each other and responsibility for the group. The camp will culminate with a performance on the last day (Aug. 8) at the Wilton Playshop for family and friends.

  1. OK … fair enough … full disclosure … I’m a Wiremill Academy “groupie” … but this is really a great opportunity for young people to get outstanding exposure to the musical theater experience. Rick, Sarah and Mary Jo, who founded and run the Academy, all have extensive B’way experience. If it fits your kid’s summer schedule, and they have some musical talent — singing, dancing, acting, whatever — enroll them. They’ll have a great time … and it will be a wonderful learning experience.
