The Wilton Board of Education has scheduled two public forums this week to hear from parents and the community on what they want in a new school superintendent. Since superintendent Dr. Gary Richards announced his retirement shortly before the start of the 2013-2014 school year, with an effective ending date of Dec. 31, 2013, the BoE has begun its search to replace him.
At a meeting on Oct. 10, the board announced its selection of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, a consulting firm that specializes in assisting school boards with the recruitment of candidates for superintendent. Hazard, Young senior associate John Chambers–himself a former school superintendent–as well as board members have emphasized the desire for public input in the search process.
Two opportunities for the public to share their thoughts with the consultants have been scheduled for this week:
- Tuesday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m.: Community Forum, at the Middlebrook School Auditorium
- Wednesday Oct. 30, 9:30 a.m.: Parent Forum, 9:30 am at Trackside Teen Center
In addition, the BoE has created an online survey which may be accessed from any of the schools websites or the district site. The survey will close on Nov. 1.
