Among the 1,760 gymnasts from across the nation who gathered in Wisconsin Dells, WI for the 2019 National Gymnastics Championship (June 19-22), a small but mighty team of seven gymnasts represented the Wilton YMCA, facing off against 93 gyms that put their skills to the test in the competition season’s finale. Along with coaches Todd Bucaro and Victoria Shea, this group of “Super Seven” took home five National All Around titles and 13 Championship titles.
First time National meet competitor Gabriella Martin took the gym by storm and proved that small is mighty: 2nd place Beam Champion (9.275), 3rd place Floor Champion (9.25) and Bar Champion, 7th Place Vault Champion (9.25) and earning the title of Silver All Around Champion.
Competing bright and early in the first session of the competition, Tess D’Andraia started off the day with solid beam and floor routines.
Representing in the 11-and-under age group, Cailyn Cruickshank was focused and ready to shine: 2nd place Floor Champion (9.1), 5th place Bar Champion, 6th place Beam Champion, and finishing as the 4th All Around Champion.
Among gymnasts 13-and-up, National veteran competitor Ella Arghirescu overcame a hard tumble during warmup and an equipment malfunction to rise up as a competitor: 5th place Bars Champion, and a spot on the podium as the 6th All Around Champion.
In the 12-and-under age group, Taylor Archambeau capped her career competing with #wiltonred with success: National Beam Champion (9.075), 7th place Vault Champion, and 5th All Around Champion.
National veteran competitor Ashley Umhoefer rose to the occasion amidst the gymnasts 13-and-under: National Bars Champion (9.375), 2nd place Beam Champion (9.3), a 9.225 on floor, and the title of 2nd All Around Champion.
Within the same age group, Alyssa Smeriglio adjusted to the venue lighting to earn some hardware and a title of her own: 8th place Bars Champion.
