Ambler Farm has a program for every member of the family.
Art of the Cocktail–For Adults
This Friday, May 8, (7 – 10 p.m.) Ambler Farm is inviting guests to their first Art of the Cocktail event to toast spring! Sample some of the hottest cocktails today as a mixologist concocts creative and refreshing drinks, including those without alcohol, to teach you how to make at home.
This unique event will feature passed hors d’oeuvres, as well as a crêpe station (lemon sugar, strawberries and cream, and banana Nutella) and a fromage and charcuterie station from Wilton’s newest restaurant, Café Ruche. Hors d’oeuvres include French lentil salad on endive spears garnished with shredded apple, ceviche (on tasting spoons), wild mushroom duxelles on sourdough crostini, and crab cakes with remoulade sauce.
There will be music as well: Mike Goddette, a guitarist, Wilton Conservatory of Music teacher and member of the group Mid Atlantic Title, will provide the evening’s entertainment.
Registration is happening now, and spots cost $75 per member, and $80 per non-member. To register now visit the Ambler Farm website.
Summer Programs–for Kids
Adventures at the Farm
Ambler Farm is also well known for its children’s summer program, one they’ve dubbed “Adventures at the Farm.”
This unique farm program provides an opportunity for students to experience farm life. Students are divided by grade levels for appropriate activities, which change each week for variety.
Students will not only learn about the plants in our educational gardens but have opportunities to work in the gardens. Spending time with Ambler’s sheep and goats is a favorite activity as well as checking to see if the chickens have laid eggs. Baby chicks, rabbits and visiting animals provide engaging opportunities for kids to interact and learn. Each week includes woodworking, hayrides, planting, harvesting, hands on projects, animals, cooking and more.
The first week of camp begins Monday, June 22, and it runs weekly through the summer; the last week of camp begins Monday, July 27. Camps are open for children in grades 1-7, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; preschool children ages 4-5 attend from 9:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m.. The cost for each child is $330 per week.
Farm to Kitchen Summer Program
Children entering grades 8-11 have a great opportunity to spend a week enrolled in a program that provides students with a unique farm-to-fork opportunity to work side by side with farmer Jonathan Kirschner and master chef and Middlebrook School culinary arts teacher Heather Priest. They’ll learn how to grow and cook freshly-harvested foods. Each day, students will work in the Ambler Farm production garden and then use the harvested foods in a culinary experience.
Priest is a winning contestant on Food Network’s “Chopped.” Her love of healthy food and cooking led her to a degree in dietetics and nutrition. She honed her culinary expertise during an apprenticeship in New York and many years as a personal chef and caterer in Fairfield County. In addition to helping grow what they eat and developing their cooking skills, students will help run the Ambler Farm booth at the Wilton Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays.
This camp runs during the weeks of July 6 and July 27, from 9:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. The fee to participate is $330 per student per week.
