Wilton caterer Alison Milwe Grace of AMG Catering and Events makes her appearance tonight at 9 p.m. on the new Food Network show, “Kitchen Casino,” but you can have the chance to take one of several fun and hands-on cooking classes at AMG’s commercial kitchen at 196 Danbury Rd. anytime.
AMG’s full roster of cooking classes, for both kids and adults, is listed on their website, and it’s clear to see that she knows what she’s doing. Grace has a Masters in Secondary Education from Fairfield University and has taught as a chef/instructor at Staples High School for eight years and cooking classes through Continuing Education Programs in Wilton, Westport and Ridgefield.
Each two-hour class usually focuses on 3-5 dishes, depending on the difficulty of each recipe. Some of the upcoming adult classes include “Thirty Minute Main Courses,” “Spring Fish,” “Sushi and Dumplings,” and “Spring Salads and Sides.” Private groups can also be booked for personalized themes as well as for girls’ nights out, bridal showers, anniversary cooking classes or birthday celebration.
Joining Grace in culinary instruction is Olivia Savarese, who doubles as director of kids’ cooking classes as well as AMG’s event coordinator. Born and raised in Paris, Savarese was taught at a very young age to appreciate all culinary experiences alongside her restaurateur father, and she gained much expertise from working in kitchens with brilliant French and American chefs on both sides of the Atlantic. Her international experience in the world of food informs and inspires her teaching, as do her two children, as she meshes her passions for teaching and culinary arts.
This year AMG is offering two one-week sessions of a summer kids’ cooking camp in July. With a theme of “Around the World in Four Days!” junior chefs ages 11-5 can take their taste buds on a trip around the world and savor the cuisines of France, Italy, Greece and Asia. Registration is currently ongoing on the AMG website.
AMG also offers in-house events and group activities for corporate and organizational clients.
“We do a lot of corporate team building, we love it. And we do that like ‘Chopped,’” Grace said, referring to another favorite cooking show. “I’m obsessed with the Food Network. I watch it all the time.” In fact their kitchen is set up with the metal food prep tables on casters so teams can roll them after getting their “mystery baskets” with surprise ingredients to challenge them. “We serve the participants family style after with everything they’ve made.”
“Kitchen Casino” airs Mondays on Food Network at 9 p.m. You can contact AMG Catering and Events at (203) 227-5535 or via their website.
