State Rep. Savet Constantine Endorses Samantha Nestor for 26th State Senate District Seat
The following endorsement was submitted by Savet Constantine:
Sam Nestor: Experience that Will Deliver for Our Communities
Over the past several months, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Sam Nestor as we’ve gone door-to-door, talking with residents and hearing firsthand about the issues that matter most to you. What has impressed me most is how naturally Sam connects with people, how seriously she takes their concerns and how often we’ve found ourselves sharing the same understanding of what our communities need and what we can do to help. Sam understands the complexities behind the issues and knows what it takes to turn good ideas into practical solutions.
That’s exactly the kind of person I want as a partner in Hartford, and why I’m endorsing Sam Nestor for State Senate.
As Weston’s three-term first selectwoman, Sam has spent years doing the hard work of local government: developing budgets, negotiating contracts, securing $36 million in state grants, reducing healthcare costs for town and school employees and working with neighboring towns on regional solutions. That’s an impressive record and the kind of firsthand experience that will be invaluable in the Senate.
And that’s why I believe Sam will be such an effective advocate for us in the State Senate as we work to address the challenges we’ve heard about from residents across our communities.
Education and property taxes are at the top of that list. We have excellent schools, but the growing cost of providing a quality education places enormous pressure on municipal budgets and local taxpayers. Sam understands municipal budgeting from the inside, and I look forward to working with her to provide more state support while preserving the local decision-making that makes our schools strong.
Healthcare affordability is another area where Sam brings real experience. She has successfully reduced healthcare costs for Weston’s town and school employees. We need that knowledge as we tackle the growing healthcare costs affecting families, businesses, and municipal budgets across Connecticut.
Housing and local development also require thoughtful solutions. Our communities need more housing options, particularly smaller homes for young adults and seniors alike. But meeting those needs means more than simply building apartment complexes. It means listening to our communities and supporting development that genuinely serves local needs.
And transportation is central to our quality of life. We need to improve and expand service on the Danbury Branch rail line, giving residents better commuting options, reducing traffic congestion, and providing environmental benefits by taking more cars off our roads. Sam’s experience collaborating across municipalities will be invaluable in advancing those conversations.
These are complicated issues without easy answers. They require people who understand the details, listen to residents, work collaboratively, and stay focused on results.
Sam knows what it takes to make government work at the local level, and she’ll put that experience to work in the State Senate to deliver results for our communities.
I look forward to working alongside Sam to make our towns stronger, more affordable, and better prepared for the future. I am voting for Sam and I hope she’ll have your vote too on Nov. 3!
