GOOD Budgets: Wilton Officials Get Closer to Bringing Budgets to Residents — TODAY’S FY 2027 Budget News
Wilton is one-and-a-half steps closer to setting next year’s budget. Both the Board of Education — which voted to adopt its budget as Superintendent Kevin Smith presented it — and the Board of Selectmen had meetings last night about their budgets. The BOS is getting closer but they’re not quite there yet, and the clock is ticking for next week’s deadline. Read GOOD Morning Wilton‘s coverage on both.

GOOD PR: Travel + Leisure Names Wilton a Top-10 CT Place to Live

Travel + Leisure magazine certainly has good taste. The upscale travel magazine recently named Wilton as one of 10 best places in Connecticut to live. The 10 towns were recommended to the magazine by realtors and were not ranked in any particular order. Wilton was cited for its “classic New England character” and its natural setting that offers space and tranquility along with community. One of the magazine’s realtor experts lauded Wilton for “one of the hottest [real estate] markets I’ve seen in recent years.” Also making the grade were Wilton’s A-plus Niche.com-recognized schools, family friendly amenities — and Rise Doughnuts.
GOOD Fix-It Instructions: What to Do if Your Mailbox Got Damaged from Snowplowing
With the major snowfall Wilton was hit with this month, several residents’ mailboxes have been damaged, either from a direct snowplow hit or from mounds of snow getting pushed off the roads.
So what is the Town responsible for and what do residents need to know? There’s actually a Town Policy that applies to the situation. The Department of Public Works posted some useful information on See/Click/Fix in response to one of the many reports that have come in through the system about damaged mailboxes:
Information Regarding Mailbox and Post Damage During Snow Removal Operations: Town of Wilton — Mailbox Policy
The Wilton Public Works Department will be responsible for the replacement of mailboxes that are damaged by direct contact with the snowplow apparatus.
Please note: The Department is not responsible for damage caused by snow discharged from the plow as it passes by. Snow discharge is a normal function of snow removal operations. It is not possible for plow operators to avoid or moderate this effect. It is the property owner’s responsibility to use sturdy materials capable of withstanding the heavy snow loads commonly encountered in Wilton.
When a mailbox or post is damaged by direct contact from a Town plow, the following will occur:
- Inspection of mailbox and post to determine the cause of damage.
- Determination of responsibility (improper installation of mailbox or plow operator error).
- If the damage occurred due to direct contact with the apparatus, the Department will install a standard steel mailbox with a wooden post. The Department is not responsible for plastic and decorative mailboxes.
Homeowners must notify Public Works within seven (7) days from the date of the storm to be eligible for repair or replacement.
The main number for the Department of Public Works is 203.563.0152.
