This Saturday, March 24, the Cannon Grange will present the annual Silent Movie Night, featuring Grange member John Mucci at the piano, for a Festival of Laurel & Hardy films. He’ll provide live piano accompaniment to several films that will be projected on the large screen at the Grange Hall (25 Cannon Rd.).
Dating back to the early 1920s, the silent movie genre provided entertainment, usually of great humor and sometimes of high drama. The dialog of the silent movies was captured through subtitles, but enhanced through the piano score sometimes written out for a pianist from the film company but often time left to the discretion of the pianist to perform “his/her own work.”
Mucci has woven together his own scores to silent movies and has presented these at Cannon Grange Hall for over a dozen years. The evening of Laurel & Hardy films will be a treat for children and adults. Tickets will be available both online and at the door.
Tickets are priced at $5 per person, and can be ordered online or can be purchased at the door. Free parking is available at the Cannondale Railroad Station parking lot across the road. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the first film rolls at 7:30 p.m..
