A much quieter week (Feb. 13-19) of weather is ahead for Wilton, following two wintry storm systems within the previous week. We do have another chance for snow this week, but it’s not guaranteed.
Monday, Feb. 13: On Monday, it’s going to be brutal outside. Watch out for slick spots on the roads due to overnight freezing. Chilly temperatures combined with very strong winds will make for feels-like temperatures only in the teens. At least the sun will be out with a mix of sun and clouds. The main story, however, will be those gusty winds. As the storm system from Sunday clears Connecticut, fast-moving air on the backside of the low pressure will flow in, leading to 50-60 mph wind gusts. Winds will be the strongest during the afternoon and first half of Monday night, then it will rapidly calm down by daybreak Tuesday. Scattered power outages are possible.
Tuesday, Feb. 14: Tuesday will be a beautiful day, finally, featuring filtered sunshine with high, thin altostratus clouds filling the sky. It will still be on the cool side with high temperatures only hitting the mid 30s, which is slightly below average. Winds will be very light, though, so that will make for a much more bearable day.
Wednesday, Feb. 15: Then on Wednesday, a few rain and snow showers are possible, especially in the afternoon, as a fasting-moving, moisture-starved clipper system breezes through the Northeast. Little-to-no snowfall is expected, but just watch out for brief bursts of snow.
Thursday, Feb. 16: Thursday will be an interesting day. This is when the forecast gets very tricky because there will be one storm moving through the South and another one moving through the North. Depending on the speed of these two storms, we’ll either have a nor’easter or nothing. As of now, the model keeps the Northern storm at a faster speed so Thursday will remain dry. Stay tuned though because changes are certainly possible, but for now, I just have have periods of sun and clouds in my forecast.
Friday, Feb. 17: Getting into Friday as the President’s Day Weekend kicks off, it will be a gorgeous winter day with sunny skies and pretty seasonable temperatures.
Saturday, Feb. 18: The entire weekend in fact looks pretty much perfect. If you’re heading on going north to ski, there’s lots of fresh new powder. If you’re flying south to the beach, there shouldn’t be any travel difficulties, at least along the East Coast. On Saturday, expect mostly sunny skies and milder temperatures.
Sunday, Feb. 19: Then getting into Sunday, there will be more of the same, featuring blue skies and highs potentially hitting 50 degrees.
