This weekend is a prime one for Wilton residents still in town and not on a beach out-of-state. For non-resident readers, it’s a perfect time to make Wilton a destination and check out the charm we have to offer.
Here’s a list of weekend events we highly recommend:
Outdoor Summer Concert at Schenck’s Island–Acoustic Wilton
Sunday, July 16 5-7 p.m., Schenck’s Island
Sunday brings the first of a four-concert series that is a joint effort of the Wilton Parks and Recreation Department and the Economic Development Commission.
This year’s series will feature all local bands, and first up on Sunday is Acoustic Wilton. The concert is free and concert-goers are encouraged to set up a blanket or chairs, bring a picnic and sit back and enjoy the music. Seating for Sunday’s show is on the island and across the river at The Chess Park.
Wilton Street Fair & Sidewalk Sale
Saturday, July 15 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wilton Center
Saturday brings the return of the annual Wilton Street Fair and Sidewalk Sale, hosted by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce. For the sixth year in a row, Wilton Center will be transformed into an exciting, action packed, bargain filled, entertaining and delicious destination for residents and regional visitors.
The annual summer festival is supported by retailers, restaurants, businesses, artisans and local organizations who pull out all the stops to showcase our community as a vibrant retail, service and dining destination. In addition to shopping and dining opportunities, there will be attractions and activities for the whole family, including face-painting, big bouncy-house and obstacle course, magician, balloon characters from Mr. Bungles, crafts, and Sand Art Party, plus new featured activities, including Zippy Pets and animal rides. Visitors are also encouraged to bring their dogs this year for activities for them as well. Several demonstrations and performance are lined up from Karate Universe, Back to Rock, The Voice, Suzuki Music Schools and much, much more!
Wilton will see returning food trucks the Melt Mobile and College Creamery, plus new food concessions from Reiki, the Pastry Hideaway, the Painted Cookie, Grill Dog, and more.
Read-y for Wilton Library’s Summer Sale at Wilton’s Sidewalk Sales
Saturday, July 15 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wilton Library (137 Old Ridgefield Rd.)
Wilton Library gets into the Summer Sidewalk Sale groove, too, during Wilton’s Street Fair and Sidewalk Sale. The library will be selling gently-used books for great beach/vacation reading, along with a huge assortment of CDs and DVDs including hundreds of brand-new or slightly-used classical recordings and DVDs, plus miscellaneous items that defy categorization.
During the sale, 15 authors will be showcasing their new books in an informal open house called “Get Booked!” from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.. Attendees will be able to meet and chat with the authors, and books will be available for purchase and signing. Wilton’s own Doug and Betty Jones (pictured below) and Bob Russell will be at the local author showcase, in addition to Kevin Gutzman, Wendy Kneip, children’s author Janine Graffeo, mystery author Barbara Pearson-Rac, and others.
