This year, Wilton has an extra week of summer before kids return to school, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking about back-to-school. Schedules, teacher assignments, school supplies, bus routes…and of course, fashion. We asked our friend Megan Abrahamsen, owner of Blue Star Bazaar, a store for women, tweens and kids, to put together some thoughts on what Wilton kids will be wearing for fall’s start of school. She’s gathered up a great collection of pictures and descriptions you’ll want to bookmark.

Megan has also come up with a really fun, creative way to see the styles close up, hosting a Mother-Daughter Mocktail Party at the Blue Star Bazaar Wilton store on Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 5-7 p.m.. With new fall fashions, treats and mocktails for the kids (and adult beverages for the moms too), this shopping event can be a great place to pick out the perfect outfit for the first day of school, picture day, and other upcoming events. Moms and daughters of all ages are invited to drop by the store at 237 Danbury Rd..

Back to school is such an exciting time of year (and not just for parents). Although it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to long summer days, there’s so much to look forward to with the start of fall. Reuniting with old friends and making new ones, crisp fall days, gorgeous foliage, and–of course–new fall fashions! Whether the kids have simply outgrown last fall’s wardrobe or you’re looking for just the right outfit for the first day of school or class photos, we have a round-up of some top trends for kids this fall.

Comfy Knit Separates for Girls

Easy separates for girls in super soft knits feel just as good as they look. Try a black and white waffle knit tee, a blue dip-dye sweatshirt with a dramatic shirt-tail hem, a deconstructed slouchy sweatshirt with hi-lo hem, or a heather grey t-shirt dress that looks as good going as it does coming. Some top brands for this look are Splendid and Vintage Havana.

Accessories with Whimsical Prints

Style isn’t just about what you’re wearing. Back packs and tote bags can express a kid’s individuality too. Some of our favorites are bags from Terez that feature bright images like donuts and emojis that are sure to make you smile. There are also back packs and lunch totes for little kids at Blu Star Bazaar featuring monkeys, rocket ships, soccer balls, lady bugs, and more.

All Shades of Pink, Red, and Burgundy

Pale blush, peachy pink, ruby red, dark burgundy…there’s room for every shade of red this fall. Dresses in these shades work great in all sorts of textures and fabrics. Try a dress with pink tulle layers to channel the inner princess. A red cotton quilted star dress is super snugly. Our burgundy microfiber fringe dress gives a subtle nod to Western style but does it with modern flair. Check out dresses by Morgan and Milo and Ella Moss.

Patterned Dresses

Knit dresses with placed patterns are an everyday staple for a lot of girls. Blue Star Bazaar has lots of options from Tea Collection. These dresses are great with bare legs in early September. As the weather cools off, pair them with patterned leggings. The great thing about this look…there is no need to match. Girls can mix-and-match dresses and leggings any which way–the quirkier the better.

Graphic Tees for Boys

The popularity of graphic tees continues. Star Wars Episode 8 is being released this winter. Feel free to show your enthusiasm with a Wookie t-shirt. Blue Star Bazaar also offers classic rock tees for little kids featuring favorites like AC/DC and Jimi Hendrix. Junk Food and Rowdy Sprout are some top t-shirt brands at BSB.

Dressed Up Knits for Boys

Comfort matters for all kids but especially for boys. Even the more polished looks have to feel good. Knits pieces from Tea Collection perform really well here. A knit long sleeve polo shirt paired with knit trousers or even elastic waistband cargo pants look nice enough for school or dinner with mom and dad, but you won’t hear any complaints because they feel so good.
