GOOD To Know: Officials to Hold Wednesday Forum to Update Community on Ongoing New Canaan Rd./Rte. 106 Construction

File photo: In 2022, road construction on an Eversource pipe laying project on New Canaan Rd. closed the road during daytime weekdays, with the resulting detours frustrating some drivers. The project started up again in spring 2024 and is continuing in 2025. Credit: GOOD Morning Wilton

Wilton State Rep. Savet Constantine is hosting a public forum to update community members about the ongoing construction on New Canaan Rd./Rte. 106, on Wednesday, May 13, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Comstock Community Center. Representatives from Aquarion, Eversource and Yankee Gas will provide new information and answer questions directly.

Constantine is co-hosting with State Rep. Lucy Dathan (D-New Canaan). [Editor’s note: Dathan is currently one of two Democratic candidates running for the State Senate seat in the 26th District.]

“We have heard your concerns about the construction timeline, paving schedule and options for connecting to gas and water service. This forum serves as an opportunity to receive a clear project overview, get accurate information straight from the companies overseeing the work, and have your questions addressed in person,” Constantine said in her message to Wilton constituents.

GOOD Dog: Wilton Library to Welcome NYT Bestselling Author Dion Leonard to Discuss Finding Gobi: A Little Dog with a Very Big Heart

Credit: contributed

Wilton Library will welcome New York Times bestselling author Dion Leonard — along with his famous little dog, Gobi — on Wednesday, Jun. 3, to discuss his book Finding Gobi: A Little Dog with a Very Big Heart.

The emotional, sometime humorous and often inspiring story is about Leonard, a seasoned ultramarathon runner who crosses paths with a stray dog while competing in a 155-mile race through the Gobi Desert in China. The lovable pup, who would later earn the name Gobi, went step for step with Dion over the Tian Shan Mountains and across massive sand dunes, keeping pace with him for 77 miles.

As Dion witnessed the incredible determination and heart of this small animal, he found his own heart undergoing a change as well. Whereas in the past these races were all about winning and being the best, his goal now was to make sure he and Gobi’s friendship continued well after the finish line, and he undertook another difficult journey to bring Gobi home to Scotland.

However, before he could take her home, Gobi went missing in the sprawling Chinese city where she was being kept. Dion, with the help of strangers and a viral outpouring of assistance on the internet, set out to track down and reunite with the dog that changed his life.

The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Q & A with the author. He will also sell and sign copies of his book. Registration is required, on the Wilton Library website or by calling 203.762.6334.

On Monday, May 18, at 2 p.m., Stay at Home in Wilton will host an Open House in the Senior Center at the Comstock Community Center, to update current members on the organization’s programming and introduce prospective members to the Stay at Home in Wilton story. Members are encouraged to bring a friend who may be interested in joining. Anyone interested in volunteer opportunities to help support Wilton’s seniors can also learn about various ways to help out.
