Wednesday, March 11–Several Wilton organization have followed in the footsteps of the Wilton Public Schools in following advice of Wilton’s Health Director Barry Bogle to close until further notice. This is in the wake of potential exposure several Wilton residents had to a presumptive positive case of COVID-19/coronavirus.

GOOD Morning Wilton will do our best to keep a running list of events that are cancelled, postponed or still ongoing. If you have any to report email us at editor@goodmorningwilton.com.

Visit the GOOD Morning Wilton Event Calendar for updated cancellations of events as well.

For updated information on Town offices and meetings of committees and boards, visit the town website.  For updates on coronavirus town postings, visit the Town’s coronavirus news page.

Among the organizations closing are:

Wilton Library

A statement from Library officials read:  “Wilton Library has been notified by the First Selectwoman’s office that Wilton Public Schools are closed effective immediately because parents of one or more students have had direct contact with a potentially presumptive positive COVID-19 patient. As a result, the library has been advised by Wilton’s Health Director to close the building. The building is now closed until further notice as of 2:45 pm [Wednesday, March 11].”

The library has a Coronavirus resource page on its website as well as several online features for patrons to access items from the library’s collection.

Wilton Family YMCA & Gymnastics Center

The Wilton Family YMCA has notified members and the public that it will be closing until further notice as well. YMCA officials emailed the following message on Wednesday:  “We have been notified by the Town of Wilton and the Wilton Health Department that due to
Covid-19 precautions in our immediate area the Wilton Family YMCA will be closing at 5 p.m. [Wednesday] until further notice.

“Out of an abundance of caution and for the health of our community, all activities, sports, and childcare programs are canceled until further notice.

“During this time the YMCA will continue on-going communications with our members as we learn more information regarding our re-opening. We hope you understand the circumstances as our YMCA plays a part in limiting the spread of Covid-19.”

The YMCA Gymnastics Center is also closing and canceling all programs and team practices until further notice. Please check the YMCA website for updates.

Our Lady of Fatima

According to a parent of students at Our Lady of Fatima Academy, the school is closed for Thursday and Friday, March 12-13, and extracurriculars like soccer, chess team, and drama club are suspended as well. The building is undergoing a thorough deep cleaning and disinfecting, which will include multiple applications of a medical grade fogger that Father Reggie has gifted. Our teachers have devised a distance learning plan, and teachers will be in direct communication with families.

Comstock Community Center

Social Services will remain open, per Lynne Vanderslice, and arrangements have been made to allow Wilton Food Pantry clients to pick up outside the lower level entrance.

Wilton Historical Society

Closed until further notice.

Turnover Shop

Closed until further notice.

Trackside Teen Center

Closed until further notice.

Wilton Softball

“The Wilton Softball board of directors has made the decision to suspend all Wilton Softball activities indefinitely consistent with the town’s direction. The board will continue to monitor the developments of the situation, including town guidance, and will provide updates as the situation changes. We will also begin to prepare for a potential prolonged postponement of the season and will let you know the plans should that become a reality. In the near-term, hitting clinics, pitching clinic, Travel team Winter workouts and Little League Rec clinics are cancelled until further notice.”

Temple B’nai Chaim

“Because the situation in our communities is evolving so quickly, we have decided to err on the side of being overly cautious and are going to suspend all in-person programming, meetings, and events at TBC for the time being. This Friday (3/13) and Saturday (3/14), we will welcome Shabbat and study the Torah portion using technology to connect digitally.
A special edition of Chailites [Newsletter] will arrive on Friday morning and include instructions for connecting to these experiences.

“As a result of Wilton, Weston, and Westport’s decisions to close their schools, TBC’s Religious School is also closed and will remain closed as long as the public schools remain closed.”

Create Learning Center

Closed until further notice.

Wilton Hindu Temple

Some changes to the program of activities are being made. While the Temple will continue to remain open weekdays 7:45 a.m.-1 p.m., and 5-9 p.m., and weekends/holidays/festivals 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Holi Celebration, scheduled for Saturday, March 14, is cancelled.

Increased hand-washing and usage of hand sanitizer (provided at stations) is encouraged, and members are urged to avoid close contact with people who are sick and try to avoid shaking hands. Modify greetings by simply saying “Namaste” and practicing the action of “Anjali Mudra,” a slight bow with hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointing upwards, thumbs close to the chest.

Wilton Youth Council

“”During this public health emergency, out of concern for the wellbeing of our community, all Wilton Youth Council programs will be suspended until further notice. We will continue to monitor the guidance from our local officials in order to be consistent with practices the town and schools are implementing. Please email Genevieve Eason with questions.”

Woodcock Nature Center

Woodcock Nature Center‘s trails and grounds are open dawn to dusk daily. The offices and nature center building are closed. Any program changes will be communicated directly with registered participants.
