Why it’s Important: Twice a year, the Board of Assessment Appeals (BAA) members hold hearings to regarding assessment appeals under CT State Statues. Three members are elected for four-year terms, although additional members can be appointed by the Board of Selectmen in reassessment years.

Appeals for real estate and business personal property assessments are heard in March; appeals for motor vehicle assessments are heard in September.

Who’s on the Board: Members elected in 2023, with terms ending in 2027 are Dan Falta (R) and Chair Bob Zsunkan (D). Chris Gardner (R) is not running for reelection.

Zoning Board of Appeals

Why it’s Important: The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is a quasi-judicial body authorized to grant relief from zoning regulations when a unique land hardship can be proven and to hear appeals alleging errors by the Zoning Enforcement Officer in decisions, orders or interpretations.

Seated on the ZBA are five regular members and three alternate members who serve a four year term.
